A child is dead.

For those of you who can read German:
http://tinyurl.com/mjxec

For those of you who can not that is a story about a child who had a "Routine Operation" (almost certainly a circumcision) for phimosis performed upon him, then died as a consequence during the aftermath.

Having already made a post earlier today about the shocking level of ignorance displayed by doctors I was pretty shocked to discover this. That boy was FOUR. A four year old can not even have phimosis, they do not need any form of treatment for non-retraction at that age.

Even if they did the Beauge Method or a simple steroid cream could have cleared it up, and now a superfluous piece of surgery has been performed and a boy is dead.

For what?

For nothing. There was no reason for it at all.

If it had not been for a medical professional, a man trained and taught for years and paid specifically for his expertise on medical matters then that child would still be alive and fine today. So an institution and profession designed to save and enhance quality of life was solely responsible for the death of someone not even half a decade into existance.

To say that this sickens me would be an immense understatement. I could rant on for thousands of words about this but I am having trouble finding the words.

This must end.

Hi Revamp,

I'm the German who brought these sad news to the English-speaking intactivist-net.

At first, thank you very much for putting it on your blog and creating more publicity! It can not be said often enough that children can die from circumcision and thus the reason for circumcision must be serious enough to risk it – certainly much more serious than a mere non-retractile foreskin.

But, just to be completely honest, it is currently not known whether the circumcision that ended up killing this little boy was justified by a more serious condition or not. There might have been urinary problems, there might have been BXO. Still, all the articles remain suspiciously quiet about the kind of operation as well as the details for its justification. It's all just "a routine operation for phimosis." You'd think that if they had a good enough reason, they'd be a bit more upfront with it, no?

So this whole thing leaves a really, really bad taste in my mouth, in addition to the sadness and compassion for the parents, who were told by the doctors that it "is an operation without any risks".

Stardust

PS: BTW, great blog! I wish we had something like this in German, it would be a great help for many boys and young men.

Put this link instead of the big one. Same thing, only smaller. ^^

Anyhow, that's sad. :( Poor kid and his parents.

I'm sensing a lawsuit by the parents. Hope they win. Money can't bring back their child, but it'll hopefully force the hospital to abandon child circumcision.

I'm just wondering how many these kinds of things have to happen until someone starts making a really big deal out of it...

Ronin: Thank you, link altered.

I hope that this child is the last...

StarDust: You are correct, there is a possibility of that. The article seemed to state that it was a routine though, I reckon that any other problems would probably have been mentioned.

Thanks for your kind words, I am glad that you enjoyed my blog. It is a pity that there is no German equivilent really. I hear that certain German organisations (*coughcough* CuttingClub *coughcough*) are pretty dedicated to spreading misinformation about this one, which is pretty disturbing.

I just found your blog, i havn't had the time to read through it all but...What did you exactly have surgery for? you DIDN'T get circumsized from what i can tell?

I have phimosis apparantly because i can't retract my skin, and i havn't been able to for many years...not to mention sex has always sucked, its ethier hurt or i don't feel anything with a condomn. Mastubating not a problem, and i've always kept clean by filling the foreskin with water making it balloon and rinsing...

...Im not sure what to do and am currently looking up this mastubation method. Your advice to me would be very very helpful.

Hello there anonymous! Sorry for not getting back to you for so long, basically I have moved house and my new place seems to have a line fault.

That is being sorted out but for the time being my internet access is highly sporadic and this comes from an e-cafe.

"I just found your blog, i havn't had the time to read through it all but...What did you exactly have surgery for? you DIDN'T get circumsized from what i can tell?"

I mentioned it a little earlier: the operation was for an unrelated removal of a hydrocele, which is water getting trapped between the skin linings of the testicles causing it to swell.

I definetely was not circumcised, thank the stars.

Are you the one who sent me the email? If so then I have already told you but if not then I would be happy to offer you some advice. :)
